" Trolls and Princesses " is a "worker placement" game. You play as one of four troll clans, trying to impress the Mountain King in order to gain his favor.

Players gain favor (in the form of victory points) when they do what trolls normally do: swap changelings, "hire" humans, tear down church bells, kidnap princesses, build their caves, and use Troll magic. To succeed, players must gather resources and move their trolls to perform different actions. The player with the most victory points can be crowned the ultimate troll tribe leader.
